Retreats
I occasionally open my home for private Kintsugi retreats.
Ma-Kōbō offers small, immersive kintsugi retreats in Colorado and Costa Rica, focused on traditional hon-kintsugi techniques, material understanding, and the philosophy of repair.
Private Kintsugi Retreats
At Ma Kōbō, each repair begins with presence.
The Kintsugi Retreat is an intimate, two-night experience for one or two guests, held in a private home in Colorado.
Over slow meals, quiet hours of work, and the rhythm of urushi, we explore the art of repair, both material and personal.
Guests leave with a finished piece, a complete Kintsugi kit to continue at home, and a sense of calm that lingers beyond the retreat.
The Setting
Two unhurried nights in a secluded home in the Colorado mountains and the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, a space shaped for stillness, conversation, and the steady rhythm of making.
Guests stay in a private suite within the home, with time for rest, reflection, and walks between sessions.
What is Included
All meals, home-cooked, seasonal, and shared at the table.
Hand-baked sweets, afternoon tea, wine, and cocktails.
Guided instruction in hon-Kintsugi using natural urushi lacquer.
A complete Kintsugi kit to continue the practice at home.
A finished piece created during the retreat.
Pace & Rhythm
Each retreat welcomes one or two guests to preserve the quiet and attention of the work.
