Ma-Kōbō offers small, immersive kintsugi retreats in Colorado and Costa Rica, focused on traditional hon-kintsugi techniques, material understanding, and the philosophy of repair.
Private Kintsugi Retreats
At Ma Kōbō, each repair begins with presence.
The Kintsugi Retreat is an intimate, two-night experience for one or two guests, held in a private home in Colorado.
Over slow meals, quiet hours of work, and the rhythm of urushi, we explore the art of repair, both material and personal.
Guests leave with a complete Kintsugi kit to continue the practice at home. The final repaired vessel remains at the studio to complete its cure and is shipped afterward.
The Setting
Two unhurried nights in a secluded home in the Colorado mountains and the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, a space shaped for stillness, conversation, and the steady rhythm of making.
Guests stay in a private suite within the home, with time for rest, reflection, and walks between sessions.
What is Included
All meals, home-cooked, seasonal, and shared at the table.
Hand-baked sweets, afternoon tea, wine, and cocktails.
Guided instruction through the major stages of traditional Hon-Kintsugi using natural urushi lacquer.
A complete Kintsugi kit to continue the practice at home.
A completed Kintsugi vessel, shipped after its final cure.
Pace & Rhythm
Each retreat welcomes one or two guests to preserve the quiet and attention of the work.
Over three days, we work with vessels prepared at different stages of repair, allowing us to move through the traditional process while respecting the curing time natural urushi requires.
